hafa adai wildcat familia! it's that time of year again for the annual FOOD DRIVE! last year was a success and i know we can top it this year. please bring all non-perishable food donations to your homebases or mrs. borja's class by friday, november 16th. we are going to put all the 8A donations together and present them to the office on friday. we are also making cards to spread some holiday cheer to the recipients of our donations. here are some pictures and comments from some of the 8A LIONS on the topic of donating to the needy this season: HOW DO YOU THINK THE PEOPLE WHO GET THESE DONATIONS WILL FEEL? "i think they will feel good and (accept) our donation and feel happy and helpful too." diana, 13 "proud because they know that people care." michael, 13 "they would feel loved and special." jaysiaree, 14 "i think that they'll feel thankful." dannika, 13 HOW DO YOU THINK THEY'LL FEEL WHEN THEY SEE OUR CARDS? "surprised." robert, 13 "they will feel safe to know that people care." michael, 14 "they will cry and be happy." krisphil, 13 "so, so happy and proud." kyle, 13 WHAT OTHER THINGS CAN OUR TEAM DO TO HELP OUT IN OUR COMMUNITY? "clean the streets." robert, 13 "donate clothes or food." kyle, 13 "give clothes, games, shoes, toys, food or learning stuff." atkay, 14 "we can do a coastal clean up, bell ringing, visit G.A.I.N." irish, 14 there are different reasons why guam students should learn about SERVICE LEARNING. One is guam public law 28-41 which requires that high school students meet a certain number of service learning hours to promote to each level. another, and hopefully the more important reason is to make positive changes on our island. prutehi I tåno' and tåsi (protect the land & sea) is a website designed by the AYUDA FOUNDATION to connect students, teachers and parents with businesses and organizations who offer activities that help improve our island. as 8th graders you must become familiar with PL 28-41 as you get nearer to entering high school, but as inhabitants of guam we should all do our part to take care of our beautiful island. so check out the website and start coming up with ideas for yourself, the team and/or your family. let's make a difference! as september 11th gets closer, most citizens recall where they were the moments they found out about the tragic events that occured that day. while it is very important to remember the past, the fact is, we cannot change it. so we should also look towards the future and strive to make positive changes in the community and in the world to pay tribute to those who lost their lives or continue to fight for our freedom. so in their honor, take some time on september 11th (and any other day) thinking about the events that occured on that day 11 years ago and the impact it has had on an entire country; thanking those who selflessly continue to protect us and our freedom- police, military, firefighters, etc.; and leaving your own positive mark in the world- plant a tree, help someone in need, donate to a needy cause, pick up trash around the neighborhood, etc. make a difference. make things better. |
